Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Encode or decode Base64 text in your browser.

Try a small example
Load the fictional example in a cleared form. Check the options, run the tool if needed, and compare the result below.
Encode UTF-8 text as standard Base64 or URL-safe Base64URL, or decode text from either format. The decoder accepts line breaks and omitted padding but only returns valid UTF-8 text. Neither format encrypts or authenticates information. Choose the format the receiving system expects: standard Base64 uses + and /, while Base64URL uses - and _ and omits padding when encoding. Select Encode or Decode. The decoder accepts line breaks and missing padding, then returns valid UTF-8 text. This tool converts UTF-8 text, not arbitrary binary files. Base64 changes representation, not confidentiality or authenticity; anyone with the encoded text can decode it.

Quick answer
Encode UTF-8 text as standard Base64 or URL-safe Base64URL, or decode text from either format. The decoder accepts line breaks and omitted padding but only returns valid UTF-8 text. Neither format encrypts or authenticates information.
The page and its assets load from the site; this operation uses your entered values only in this browser and does not send them to a calculation endpoint.
How to use it
Choose the format the receiving system expects: standard Base64 uses + and /, while Base64URL uses - and _ and omits padding when encoding. Select Encode or Decode. The decoder accepts line breaks and missing padding, then returns valid UTF-8 text.
Limits
This tool converts UTF-8 text, not arbitrary binary files. Base64 changes representation, not confidentiality or authenticity; anyone with the encoded text can decode it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption or a way to verify a message?
No. It is a reversible encoding and does not authenticate the content. Anyone with the encoded text can decode it.
What changes in Base64URL?
Base64URL replaces + and / with - and _. When encoding, choose the format the receiving system expects; when decoding, choose the alphabet used by the pasted text. This tool omits padding when encoding Base64URL.
Can I paste line-wrapped or unpadded Base64?
Yes. ASCII spaces and line breaks are ignored, and valid omitted padding is restored. The alphabet must still match the selected format.
Why can decoding fail if the Base64 is valid?
The decoded bytes may be a binary file or text in a different character encoding. This tool only displays valid UTF-8 text.
