Method and limits

Enter the amount to split and the number of people. Add a tip percentage if needed; leave it blank for no tip. The optional tip is calculated on the entered amount. Include any tax or service charges in that amount yourself if you want them in the split; they will also be part of the tip base. For example, 96.00 split four ways with a 10% tip is 26.40 each. The bill and calculated tip are rounded to cents first; if the total has leftover cents, some people pay one cent more so all shares add up exactly.

The optional tip is calculated on the bill amount entered. Taxes and service charges are not added; if you include them in the entered amount, they are also part of the tip base. The bill and tip are rounded to cents before splitting.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some people pay one cent more?

A total cannot always be divided into equal whole cents. For example, 11.00 split three ways is two shares of 3.67 and one of 3.66. The result shows how many shares have each amount, and they add up exactly to the total.

How is the optional tip calculated?

The tip percentage is applied to the bill amount you enter. If you include tax or service charges in that amount, they are also part of the tip base.

Are tax and service charges added for me?

No. Add them to the entered amount yourself if you want them included in the split.
