Guided walkthrough

Create a passphrase from randomly selected words.

  1. Choose 3 to 10 words and a separator.
  2. Only when ready, use the tool’s generate button to create fresh, unpredictable values. Check the chosen options and keep any real secret private.

Illustrative example

Choose 6 words separated by hyphens. Expect six random word selections joined by five hyphens.

How to read the result

Strength depends on the word-list size and the number of random selections. Separators do not add random choices, and words may repeat. Generate a fresh phrase; do not invent a predictable sentence. The built-in pool contains only 178 English words. With this small pool, word count alone does not imply strong security.

This is a static educational walkthrough. It does not fill fields, generate values, inspect your browser, or read storage. Use fictitious, non-secret data for practice. Never share passwords, keys, tokens, or cookie values. These explanations are not a security audit or certification.

Quick answer

Generate a passphrase from 3–10 randomly selected words in a fixed list of 178 English words. Join them with your chosen separator, then check the account’s password rules and save the result securely.

The page and its assets load from the site; this operation uses your entered values only in this browser and does not send them to a calculation endpoint.

How to use it

Choose the number of words and a separator, then generate a phrase. Words are selected randomly from this page’s built-in list. Use a unique phrase for each account and store it securely.

Limits

The words come from a fixed list bundled with the page. A passphrase’s strength depends on the number of words and how randomly they are selected; follow the account’s length and character rules.

Choose the word count and separator

Select an integer from 3 to 10 words and a separator of up to three characters, then generate a new phrase. The default uses five words. All words come from the same fixed list of 178 English words, even when you use another language version of the page.

A hyphen joins the selected words into one string. For example, word1-word2-word3-word4-word5 illustrates the format only; it is not a generated passphrase and must not be used as a password. Check whether the destination account allows the separator and resulting length before saving your phrase.

Passphrase, password or numeric PIN?

This tool makes phrases from words; it does not set a password on an account. Use the password generator for random characters or the random PIN generator when a device requires digits. To understand how the word list and number of random selections affect the possibilities, read the password entropy guide. A small built-in word list is a limitation, and no generated value guarantees account security.

Frequently asked questions

How does the passphrase generator choose words?

It selects words at random from a fixed list bundled with the page. The result is not checked against a particular website’s password rules.

Does adding a separator make a passphrase secure?

A separator changes the displayed string, but strength depends mainly on the random word selection and number of words.

Where should I keep the result?

Save it in a password manager or another secure place. This page does not keep a recoverable copy after you leave.
